Royal Liverpool Hospital

Lundy Healthcare successfully relocated a Siemens Ecam Gamma Camera at the Royal Liverpool.

The Lundy engineering team de-installed the system from its old location and re-installed it to switch on at its new location. The system was taken apart and de-cabled to our high standards, with an inventory completed in order to facilitate the re-installation.

The engineering team were then responsible for forming a new base plate for the system to sit on in its new location. The team used the template and a foam border to create the base plate and then a self levelling compound was poured into the mould and left to set. The floor plate was then bolted to the base plate and the Ecam fitted to the floor plate.  The Siemens Ecam was then re-installed and cabled ready for switch on.

Dave Martin, the Siemens Project Manager, said: 'It was an excellent effort by a well prepared and competent team. The team leader, Carl Barney, deserves special mention for being well organised. The team was very focussed on the work and our end customer reported that they were very pleased'.

King Edward VII Hospital, Hampshire

When King Edward VII Hospital went into liquidation, Alliance Medical needed to act quickly to remove their assets from site and deliver to their next customer.  Lundy Healthcare provided a complete solution for de-installing, packing, removing, transporting and shipping their MRI.  Within two weeks of their initial call, we had completed a site survey, provided risk assessments and method statements, implemented the project and shipped the MRI to Holland for re-installation at its new home.  'We provided the customer with a quality service from start to finish', said Andy Wilks, Director of Project Management at the time.  'From the inital surveys to the technical expertise required to accomplish this in such a short time, Lundy had a tight hold on the project which enabled a smooth implementation and a satisfied customer.'  Lundy Healthcare went on to install the MRI into a mobile trailer on behalf of Philips.

Refurbished MRI sent to Iraq

Impoverished countries are greatly benefitting from redundant imaging systems from the Europe and North America.  With an MRI costing upwards of £750,000, buying new equipment would be an impossible purchase, and refurbished systems represent a life-saving opportunity.  One such success story was a pre-owned MRI moved from Italy to be re-used in Iraq.  Redundant from use, the Mobile Siemens Impact Expert was removed from it's Italian site to be stored at Lundy Healthcare's cold storage facility, where it the system was upgraded and the trailer refurbished. One of the first of its' kind to be installed in Iraq, patients will no longer have to travel more than 300 miles to the nearest MRI facility.

James Cook University Hospital, Middlesborough (featured on BBC News North East)

When the James Cook University Hospital made the decision to remove their existing MRI to make way for a new, state of the art Siemens Avanto, they understood it would be a big operation.  Sionce the MRI had been installed, a new wing had been built on the hospital, creating a logistical headache for removal and access.  An 800 tonne crane was assembled on site over two days for use by both Lundy Healthcare and Siemens.  Described as every project manager's 'planning nightmare' on BBC News, Lundy Healthcare successfully managed the removal of the redundant scanner.  The 6.5 tonne MRI was lifted more than 80 metres into the sky, before being loaded onto a specialist lorry and transported to Lundy's warehouse facility, where it was disposed of in accordance with WEEE regulations.

Leahurst Small Animals Hospital

The University of Liverpool recently built a brand new £9.6 million Small Animals Hospital at Leaahurst in Wirral, treating domestic pets and exotic small animals.  The university hopes that, as well as offering pioneering treatment, it will become a world leader in veterinary training.  Lundy Healthcare were pleased to help towards this goal, project managing the installation of a refurbished MRI for the hospital.  After de-installing the Siemens Harmony from its previous UK site on behalf of Siemens Medical Solutions, we provided specialist storage, clinical cleaning, full re-installation and handover back to Siemens before final commissioning at it's new home.  Clive West, Regional Manager for Siemens Medical Solutions, comments: 'Moving the MRI proved to be a seamless project and Leahurst were very pleased with this addition to their state-of-the-art imaging suite.'
